50th Anniversary

A “sister city” represents a long-term partnership between two cities in different countries promoting peace and cultural exchange through people-to-people programs. The idea of Hermosa Beach adopting a sister city began in 1966 when Jack Belasco, Mayor of Hermosa Beach, along with Jack Wise, councilman and chairman of the sister city steering committee, proposed the partnership between Hermosa Beach and Loreto Baja California Sur, Mexico.

On Sunday Sept. 24, 2017 the city of Hermosa Beach celebrated the 50 year anniversary with their sister-city Loreto, BCS, Mexico. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the Hermosa Beach Sister City Association there was a community wide celebration that they organized for the city.

There was an entire day of celebration…

  • Declaration of Sister City Week
  • Rededication of Loreto Plaza
  • Folklorico Sunday on the Pier Plaza Stage
  • VIP After Party at American Junkie. restaurant on Pier Plaza
