Hermosa Beach Sister City Association

In 1967 Hermosa Beach formed a "sister city" relationship with the city of Loreto, in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The Hermosa Beach Sister City Association (HBSCA) was thus formed. This serene, picturesque fishing village is located on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California. Over the years, the HBSCA has forged a very close bond with Loreto and its citizens. With assistance and guidance from the HBSCA. Loreto has vastly improved the quality of life for its residence and created many opportunities for its citizens. HBSCA is a United States Congressional recognized program.

HBSCA Members Donate Readers to DIF

Hermosa Beach Sister City members, Susie Moon and  Bob Wyler, who live part-time in Loreto have purchased and donated 500 pairs of reading glasses and 100 pairs of sunglasses to the local DIF in Loreto.  DIF is an organization that helps the most vulnerable people in the Loreto area.  Yolanda, the director of DIF, is thrilled to receive these glasses and said “They will go to those in need who could really use reading glasses and sunglasses.”  It’s important to note that reading glasses and sunglasses are not readily available in Loreto (like here in the USA).

Membership Drive 2019

It’s that time of year Sister City friends to renew your membership! This year our goal is to help the Casa Hogar La Esperanza” – Foster Group Home in Loreto.

  • Background:  “DIF” is the government organization for Family Services in Mexico.  Yolanda Garcia Rojas is the Director of Loreto DIF. (Her late son participated in Student Exchange many years ago) Teri Anguiano is the Director of the “Casa Hogar La Esperanza” which is a group home for children.
  • In addition to the formal letter requesting a van for transporting children, our members who visited saw a need for safer bunk-beds, bringing bathrooms to meet standards for caring for children (plumbing, toilets, sinks, showers, etc.), and staff shared a need for a new refrigerator and stove/oven.

Please join now to help us realize our 2019 goal!
